Professor Ernest Kofi Abotsi

Professor Ernest Kofi Abotsi is the Dean of the UPSA Law School in Accra Ghana, Managing Partner of Axis Legal Solicitors, and an Associate Professor of  law. Prior to his current appointment, he was the Dean of the GIMPA Law School, and previously lectured in other universities in Ghana.

 A public intellectual, Dean Abotsi is a member of the Ghanaian Bar, a lifetime member of the Governing Council of the Africa Bar Association, and a member of the Corporate & Commercial Committee of the Commonwealth Lawyers Association, in addition to his past and current membership of other professional associations including the International Bar Association.

He holds to his credit extensive publications spanning the fields of constitutional law, international trade law, international environmental law, corporations law and human rights law.  His works are contained in leading peer reviewed journals from around the world in addition to a host of other scholarly writings such as books, working papers, policy position papers, reports, and other literature reflecting the depth of his scholarship and academic standing. 

 Dean Abotsi holds a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) Degree and a Practicing Certificate (BL) in Law from the University of Ghana and the Ghana School of Law respectively, a Master of Laws (LLM) Degree from the Harvard Law School, and a Doctorate (PhD) in Law from the University of Milan, Italy.

He is widely consulted by leading local and international bodies including the IMF and UNICEF, and has in this context led and been part of teams that have undertaken training, structural and system reforms in Ghana and other African countries.

As an academic, Dean Abotsi has been a visiting scholar and guest lecturer in leading African, European and American universities including Oxford University, Fordham Law School, Indiana Law School and the University of Milan, Biccoca, Italy.

He has, and continues to serve on a number of corporate  boards and advisory councils of local and multinational corporations, and continues  to play pivotal roles in shaping the policy directions of corporate entities in Ghana. This includes his being currently the chairman of the advisory board of the Chief Executives Network of Ghana, (a body comprising the CEOs of some of the largest and notable corporations in Ghana).

He is an honorary fellow of the Institute of Directors Ghana, a member of the Ghana Bar Association and Rotary International.
